Beginners Section

Apache Gunship by Dave Evans - 1st Place

Boulders on the shoreline by Heidi Massey – 2nd place

Boulders on the shoreline was taken at Kimmeridge Bay on a day trip with @devizes_camera_club. Heidi says ‘I was making my way very carefully (it's very slippery there) around the bay and had noticed the stones earlier on in the afternoon but as another member was photographing nearby, I didn't want to get in their shot so I made a mental note and made my way back to them later - so glad I did as the tide had come in a little bit more by then’.

Katie by Peter Evans – 3rd place

The image of Katie was taken in Exeter on a photoshoot with her. The door was a local church near her home. She did the colour matching with the door. Taken with natural light.

Intermediate Section

Take Flight by Richard Blackbourne – 1st place

I asked Richard how he had managed to capture this moment, he tells me ‘I was at the river trying to get some shots of the Kingfisher diving when I just happened to turn around and see the long tailed tit in the tree. I fired some shots off and as usual I spooked it but managed to get a decent image’.

Pink Lily by Bridget Codrington – 2nd place

Bridget says ‘As soon as I saw these double Lilies in the supermarket I knew they would make a pleasing subject. The background is a white blind in a SW facing window in my living room, it can be a real challenge to get just the right amount of light coming through the blind to back-light the subject’.

Tumbling Down by Dave Eagle – 3rd place

Tumbling down is an iPhone shot of a waterfall near Hartland quay in North Devon, the iPhone giving the slightly narrower portrait frame, with Mono processing courtesy of Lightroom.

An Outpouring of Barley by Dave Eagle – HC

An outpouring of Barley is a macro snap of an ear of Barley, normally you see barley completely unfurled, but this shows a slightly unusual view where the hairs/spikelets have yet to completely unfurl. The green barley against a green background giving a pleasing overall green hue to the image.

Advanced Section

Kimmeridge Ledge by Robert Harvey – 1st place

Kimmeridge Bay in Dorset has a wealth of intriguing geology. Careful planning around the tides enabled this image of a wave cut platform being covered by the rising tide almost an hour after a midwinter sunset. There was not much light left and no filter was needed to achieve a 25 second shutter speed.

About to Land by David Wilkinson – 2nd place

This image was one of ten images submitted for David’s successful LRPS, he used it to demonstrate the use of shutter speed. The eye is clear and sharp however the wing shows movement, one of the disciplines required for this qualification.
The bird is a Chaffinch coming in to land on a perch at the rear of the tree and out of site.
David used the panning technique, the solid trunk helps to balance the image.

First Light on the Canal by David Wilkinson – 3rd place

Another print of David’s entered into his successful LRPS. He had to show variety of subjects, in this case trying to balance and control highlight and shadows in a single image.
Shot near his house on the canal he particularly enjoyed the pastel colours and serenity of the scene.
David tried this shot on a number of mornings however on this occasion the moored boats and the Duck crossing the sun reflection in the water created the scene he had in his head.

Frosty Sunrise, The Cove, Avebury by Robert Harvey - HC

or a week or so in early May and again in early August, the sun rises between these two huge sarsen stones in Avebury's northern inner circle (The Cove). A combination of mist and frost on May Day gave atmosphere to the scene.
