Light in the Land

This week’s talk was by Verity Milligan titled ‘light on the Land’. Verity described her almost accidental journey to becoming a full time professional photographer and judge for LPOTY. Verity’s images ranged around the UK, starting with urban scenes from Birmingham where she has made her home, and finishing with her commercial work. Her use of light across the landscape, and being in the right place at the right time didn’t portray just how much time and effort has gone in to portraying the beautiful images shown to us. You can see through her eyes the significance of personal response and interpretation of the ever changing, always intriguing scenery.

Birmingham, through her lens, seemed more like a European city, with her use of blue hour, fog and snow, not the city many of us imagine in our heads.

Also her love affair with her native Scotland came through with images from Glen Affric, Torridon and the Ice of Skye, Harris and Lewis.

Verity rounded off her talk with images and ideas from the Peak District and Warwickshire showing that stunning images can be captured locally. An excellent talk that has encouraged us all to explore what this country has to offer more.

More information on Verity and her stunning images can be found on her website.
