Secret Britain

Welcome Andy Sands APAGB with his amazing talk ‘Secret Britain’.

We watched wonderful wildlife images from the Outer Hebridean island of Coll including the elusive corncrake, cuckoos and numerous brown hares.

Moving on to the North Pennines where there are rare flowers, beetles and many birds common to that specific area including black grouse, long and short eared owls. Heathland produces another unique group of plants and insects as well as birds like the Dartford warbler.

No nature talk would be complete without a section on woodland birds, insects and of course the all-important fungi.

Andy showed us some incredible images of slime moulds, some less than a few millimetres tall.

I suspect many of our members present last night who were inspired by Andy's images, will be found crawling around on the forest floor looking for slime mould this season!
