This pup was photographed at the trust reserve at Donna Nook on the Lincolnshire coast. More than 2000+ seal pups were born and it is a wonderful experience to see the site whilst this is taking place. The smells and sounds are unique and visitors are fortunate to be able to get within arms reach of the pups although there is a strictly no touch, disturb policy. I look forward to this years births.
Pete’s image was taken on a very cold November evening at the Swindon Railway Museum, with period re-enactors and a smoke machine.
Pete’s image was taken at the Crofton pumping station near Great Bedwyn in Wiltshire at a Steampunk event being held there.
Lynda told me ‘Whilst visiting Fountains Abbey last summer, a heavy rain shower drove visitors indoors, towards the shelter of the cloisters. I waited there, until most people had returned outside, and took this image. The texture of the stonework works well in mono, offering many opportunities for photographers, by using the windows, arches, pillars and length of the building’.
David’s beautiful image was taken last May at dusk in Scotland. The sow (female badger) was elderly and very deaf giving me the opportunity to sit quietly and photograph her.
Eglwys Bach y Mor ("The Little Church in the Sea"). Built in 1254 and dedicated to St Cwyfan, this petite church occupies a fascinating location on the tidal island of Cribinau adjacent to Anglesey. At high tide it is surrounded by water, with a rough causeway of boulders being the first connection revealed.

David’s image was taken in the Ardenmurchan, Western Scotland. Having trained a few Spaniels over the years, I can now photograph them sitting patiently waiting for the next command. Both Cocker spaniels, Stacey on the left is 8 years old and Ginny on the right is 17 months old.
Robert has skilfully captured the rock arch of Enys Dodnan at high tide and sunset (not that there is any sun to be seen), a few metres back from the usual shooting position to include the foreground rocks.

Penny told me ‘I had never been to Penmon, Anglesey before and was surprised how near the marker buoy was to the promenade. There was little manoeuvrability when framing the shot and I had missed high tide. The conditions were not good, and with driving rain I had to work quickly, my large umbrella out covering the camera and I was in full waterproofs.
I had not thought I had photographed anything worthwhile until I downloaded the capture card. I was pleased with the results but would like to go back and try a minimalistic image’.
Dave’s image was taken on the North West coast of Scotland. I went to this area as I'd been told of a beach with a series of rusty anchors on it. What I wasn't told was of the old rusty buoys nor the two derelict wooden boats.
Photographed at the Blist Hill Museum in Shropshire. It is always a pleasure to see a dray horse and this scene gave the natural situation of two ladies passing the time in local conversation. I gave the photograph a sepia tint to reflect the Victorian period it depicts.
Heidi’s lovely image of Roundway Hill started off as part of her work's calendar project. Heidi says’ I had gone to Roundway with a friend one cold, bright February afternoon hoping for a good sunset, which as usual didn't happen. But I did manage to get this shot by lying on my stomach, much to my friend's amusement, as I loved how the late afternoon sun brought out all the details of the hillsides. As there wasn't any great colour in the image I converted it to mono and during the editing I managed to bring out the details in the sky. The image didn't make it into the calendar but it still one of my favourites’.
Wendy’s striking image concentrates on some old breakwater posts on Lowestoft Beach. Because of their height, they resembled watchers on the shore, the figure in the distance added a sense of scale and I like the fact that the seagull was up there watching too. Taken on a phone and converted to Mono in Photoshop Elements. In Mono the texture and weathering of the posts was more pronounced and interesting.
Dave said ‘I found this by accident really. I was photographing the sunrise from the Cats Back just outside of Strathpeffer in the Highlands. On the way home, I took a wrong turn and found the sun streaming through the mist. It works well in Black and White, but I like it more in colour’.
Frank’s serene image was taken one Sunday afternoon in April 2021 on the Kennet and Avon canal near Pewsey. I was struck by the peaceful, tranquil scene but the contrasts from the sunny afternoon made a colour rendition challenging. Conversion to monochrome simplified the image, focussing the eye on the reflection and the shape of the arch, aided by the use of a slow shutter speed.
Frank’s evocotive image was taken on a walk around Dryham Park on Boxing Day 2021. Looking down into a side valley I was attracted to the patterns of light and shade from a shaft of weak winter sun. The light and dark worked well in monochrome – unlike the browns and greens of the winter grassy landscape.
Robin tells me that 'Going for a walk' is a combination of three images. Two from a recent visit to London and the third was taken in Frome. The image was created in photoshop using multiple techniques.
Wendy’s image shows a small section of the Maggi Hambling Sculpture “ Scallop” on Aldeburgh Beach. She wanted a different look than the usual photo so concentrated on the middle section to highlight the texture and shapes in the sculpture. Taken on a phone and converted to Mono in Photoshop Elements.
