10 Secrets of Street Photography
Last night we welcomed multi-award winning street photographer Simon Ellingworth with his talk 10 secrets of street photography. Simon has 35 x international awards including 1st place winner of the ‘International Photography Awards 2024’ in the professional street category.
Simon explained some of the thinking behind a street photograph or ‘a moment’ by showing some images by well known photoraphers.
With plenty of advice on the methods simon uses like fishing and hunting, tips and tricks of how to dissappear into the background and what makes a strong image we should be well armed to go out onto the street and find some great images.
In a genre where sharpness is a bourgeois concept and cropping someone’s head off adds a sense of tension, it’s fair to say that Street photography is much misunderstood. Especially when you realise street photography doesn’t even need to be taken in, on, or even near a street! This 2 hour interactive, based on the monthly Royal Photographic Society street taster sessions, challenged our perceptions of street and give us lots of practical and executable techniques and ideas to explore.
