Svalbard: Life on the Cold edge plus Best of Europe

A chance invitation from a friend took Paul Collins to Svalbard in 2015.

Svalbard: at 78 degrees north, lies between Norway and the North Pole. Svalbard’s unique landscape and wildlife make it an irresistible destination for photographers. His talk was a photographic journey across fjords and tundra, celebrating the best of Artic wildlife under the midnight sun.

As soon as he landed, he saw an Artic fox chasing some birds at the side of the runway and then another one outside the kitchen window of his cabin! Paul observed the behaviour and photographed these two foxes for the following week while they handed the eggs of nearby nesting Eider ducks.

Paul is also a talented artist and always spends some of his time painting his subjects on his trips.

Off to Europe and the Dalmation Pelicans on Lake Kerkini. Paul showed some stunning images on this famous lake.

Finally we enjoyed some hide images from spain of short eared owls, goshawks, vultures, hoopoes, and Iberian woodpeckers amongst many others.

Paul is an award-winning nature photographer and guide from London. His images, which often feature in low light and minimalist landscapes, have been awarded in the British wildlife Photography Awards and Bird Photographer of the Year amoungst others; and he regularly leads bird photo tours in the UK and Europe. He also works in television, co-producing documentaries for the BBC, channel 4 and discovery network”.
