Light Painting Practical

Last night, we lit up the dark literally! 28 members joined us for an evening of Light Painting at the Rugby Club on Tuesday evening. There were many different set ups to photograph, including a spinning bike wheel that produced a dome of light with a 10 second exposure that looked ready for lift-off - it was a feast of creativilty. Beautiful light reflection on the crystal balls and mirrors. We even got a splash of science with water and oil that danced with colour like lava lamps over a light pad set up by Glynn Williams. Let’s not forget the light wand choreography that had us all wondering if we had joined a secret Jedi society. There were also two still light sets by Heidi  Massey and Barbara Jones, which were lit with torch light and several wands waved enthusiastically to produced scrolls of light. It was a really fun evening but also a great exercise in using the exposure triangle with long exposure to produce fun images.

It was wonderful to see members stepping out of their comfort zones and diving into something wildly different from their usual style. Who knows…. I would not be surprised if a few of those light-painted msterpieces quietly made their way into the creative competition.

A huge thanks goes to Caroline for guiding us through the mesmerising world of light painting. JS,CW.
