Simply Black and White
Last night Chris Upton ARPS gave his talk ‘Simply Black and White’ demystifying the art of taking black and white photographs and why one should do so.
There are plenty of reasons to shoot in black and white: for simplicity, minimalism, to remove the clutter, show texture and to add drama, especially in the sky.
Chris showed us an excellent selection of examples from documentary images of closing call mines, architectural shots from Europe and India, portraits, landscapes and long exposures.
Chris gave us an interesting demo in Photoshop of processing a colour ‘before’ image to a punchy mono ‘after’ image.
We can put all of this advice into practice when we go to London in 10 days’ time to do some architectural shots in the City!
