Last night at Devizes Photography Club, we welcomed Alison Webber FRPS for her fascinating and deeply personal presentation, The Cloak of Conformity and the Corset of Expectation.
Alison shared how an unexpected encounter with a photographer during her honeymoon sparked an interest that would eventually lead her to a camera club, new friendships and a growing passion for photography.
From meticulously planning the perfect landscape photograph to embracing the unexpected, Alison described how her approach evolved as she began to question what she wanted from her photography, rather than what she felt was expected of her.
Through humorous and touching anecdotes, Alison spoke openly about her experiences of autism, the challenges of social interaction and how photography has helped her explore the world from her own unique perspective.
A particularly memorable moment was seeing her Fellowship panel of 21 images, accompanied by her Statement of Intent. Describing the work as an expression of her own individuality and her experience of autistic reality, Alison shared a deeply personal perspective through her photography.
A huge thank you to Alison for sharing her experiences, creativity and personal journey with such openness. An inspiring evening that encouraged us to embrace our individuality and find our own photographic voice.
