Last night at Devizes Photography Club, we welcomed Sue Sibley FIPF ARPS EFIAP/gold DPAGB BPE5* for a fascinating evening exploring her creative photography and the stories behind her images.
Sue took us on a journey through her photographic development, from her early competition entries to the imaginative composites, photographic panels and beautifully crafted prints she creates today.
What made the evening particularly enjoyable was discovering the thought processes behind her photographs, and how everyday objects, chance encounters and seemingly insignificant details can become part of something entirely new. From buying a pram in a charity shop because she could not isolate one sufficiently in a photograph, to spending two evenings meticulously working on the spokes of a bicycle, Sue demonstrated the extraordinary dedication behind bringing her creative ideas to life.
Sue also entertained us with the story behind her Fellowship distinction, including a mix-up with her mounts, an unexpected printer purchase when her own broke down, and a last-minute scramble to submit her panel successfully!
Despite the planning, patience and considerable work involved, Sue’s approach to creativity was refreshingly simple: experiment, learn and, above all, have fun!
A huge thank you to Sue for sharing her photography, experiences and wonderfully imaginative approach to creating images. A thoroughly enjoyable evening that left us with plenty of ideas and a fresh appreciation for the possibilities hidden within our own photographs!
