Western Counties Photographic Federation Inter-Club Competition

Today, five members of the Devizes Photography Club went to the Annual Western Counties Photographic Federation Digitally Projected Inter-Club Competition, held in Exeter.

This attracts entries from over 47 clubs in the Southwest. In the morning we were shown the Print competition, with Bristol collecting gold, Dorchester coming second and Non-pareil winning the small club cup. The competition highlighted many different genres, presented on different papers. Being able to see the prints proved better than the digital images on screen.

After a lunch break and raffle, the 150 people present went through the projected images, marks being awarded by the three judges out of fifteen. The club entered eighteen images, not all previously awarded in Club competition. We collected 221 points, coming a very commendable equal third with Plymouth out of 47 clubs. Bristol again came first with 229 points, and Truro second with 222. Special mention should go to Robert Harvey for his individual second place gaining a Sliver medal with 15 points for ‘Oystercatcher among Knot’, and Sarah Lovett and Caroline Wright who scored 14 points for two of their images.

This competition gave those present an insight into what other photographers are doing just now, and what the judges were looking for. It emphasised the advantages of a wide selection of genres.
