The Classic Car Boot Sale ain’t no basic boot sale!
This link to the website will give you a flavour and also the one above shows you some images from previous events. If you have any vintage clothing and want to join in the fun then this is the ideal event to dress up for - you will be photographed but normal clothing is absolutely fine as well.
You will see over 150 wonderful classic cars from the 1920s to 1990s. It also brings lots of vintage clothing from across the country sold from the boots of the classic cars and people dress in their vintage cloths to shop.
For the absolute best photography opportunities, Saturday morning between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM is the prime time to shoot. This window offers clean, unobstructed compositions of the rare vehicles before the thick afternoon crowds roll in, and it catches the vintage traders and early-bird subculture dressers at their freshest and most photogenic.
Head to the steps overlooking the square. Using a telephoto zoom lens from an elevated position allows you to compress the scene, capturing the colourful tapestry of classic car roofs, vintage clothing racks, and bustling crowds against the brick backdrop of the Granary
Position your subjects or a striking vehicle beneath the sweeping, modern "kissing" iron roofs. The juxtaposition of a mid-century American muscle car or a vintage Vespa against Thomas Heatherwick’s modern industrial architecture creates incredible visual tension.
Subculture Fashion: Saturday is the absolute best day for street style photography. You will find Rockabillys, Mods, Goths, and 1970s fashion enthusiasts fully dressed up for the event.
⚙️ Recommended Gear
Lenses: A 24mm-105mm is a great all round lens for an event like this. A 35mm or 50mm prime lens with a wide aperture (like f/1.8) is perfect for isolating beautifully dressed attendees or car details from the busy background clutter.
Filters: Bring a Circular Polarizer (CPL) filter. This is essential for cutting out harsh sunlight glare and reflections on the polished car windshields and metallic bodywork.
The Heritage Details: Don’t just take wide shots. Move in close to capture tight macro frames of chrome hood ornaments, retro steering wheels, hand-painted vintage stall signs, and spinning vinyl on the DJ trucks.
Food: Plenty of traders will be available selling food and drink.
It should be another slightly mad event with lots of photographic opportunities. If you are frightened about doing portraits of people and also asking them to pose you will be a pro by the end of our time at this event. This should also be an interesting event for street photographers to get something a bit different or members interested in classic cars.
Tickets typically cost around £7 in advance or £8 on the door.
