Dave Eagle will lead a walk in Savernake Forest this Friday 17th October 2025 at 7.30 am to photograph the Autumn Colour ; The date and time is to co-incide with the best conditions, for colour and weather. Dave has extensive knowledge of Savernake so this promises to be really good way to get to know the forest.
Please see the joining instructions below and let me know if you will be going. Caroline is happy to arrange lift sharing from Devizes .
Meeting point
We will meet at 7:30 in Savernake on the Grand Avenue at the junction of Grand Avenue and Three Oak Hill Drive
There is parking for about 6-8 cars given it’s a weekday and early so we will likely have only a couple of dog walkers with which to contend.
We will be out for about 3 hours depending on how many stops/pictures we make, so please bring water/snacks to suit.
Walking is relatively easy, but stout footwear is a must as the paths are uneven.
There is an amount of Autumn Colour, and the canopy of the larger trees is still very green, so we should get some useful colour contrasts against full canopies. The route has been chosen to avoid any dense areas of bracken, as although the ferns are turning, they can still be over head height and make compositions difficult. We will also be avoiding areas in which the forestry commission are felling trees, but be aware they are working in the forest.
Although we will be looking primarily for tree-based compositions, this has been a good year for Funghi, so you may wish to take advantage of this and grab some Funghi shots long the way.
Equipment:
Lenses - Mid-Range Zoom - 24-120 f/4 is my choice, some compositions may require a slightly longer lens I f you have one
Tripod - Definitely required as the light levels are low
Polariser - takes the glare off the leaves/wet surfaces
