A trip to London’s Columbia Road to see the residents around Columbia Road in London dress up in skeletal , Floral and Bright attire. This is to celebrate Mexicans Day of the Dead, which despite it’s name is a joyful celebration honouring passed loved ones. After the event we can get some lunch then there will be other opportunities to photograph elsewhere.
If we leave on the 8:05am train from Andover we will be in time to photograph people before the big parade.
Below is the programme for the day
10.30am – Meet outside the school to gather for the cycle ride.
11.00am – London’s Day of the Dead Cycle Ride departs Columbia Road for Tower Hamlets Cemetery. Organised with Kidical Mass, this is a child-friendly ride. Please come dressed for the occasion—skulls, flowers, insects! The ride returns to Ezra Street around 12.30pm. Photographers will be on hand, so don’t be shy if you’d like to be captured in all your finery. Free but book here
11am – 4pm- school yard will open for a Mercado. There will be stalls selling food, drinks and crafts raising money for Columbia Primary School. There will also be a range of death professionals and connected businesses to talk to. Come and ask a funeral director anything, find out about the Natural Death Centre and you can have a go at needle-felting a shroud.
12pm London’s Day of the Dead Beauty Parlour opens. Get the look with fabulous artists. Book here.
1.00pm – Dance Performance by Mexican choreographer Alondra, inspired by La Catrina.
2.00pm – The Procession begins, led by Mariachi Las Adelitas, followed by the Colour Walk participants.
3.30pm – Second Dance Performance by Alondra, continuing the La Catrina-inspired celebration.
